blissed out

first, to those of you asking allow me to just say this: the fire fighters ball wasn't. a ball that is. in fact it was a bust. in their defence? we didn't know anyone and we did get there late. in ours? the freaking drinks were seven to ten bucks!

so yeah, i got nothing.

that said, there were a few beautiful men there, it's just there were also tables full of young women dressed to the freaking nines. if i were a wolf i would say that the hunting wasn't good there. if i were a farmer i would describe the land as overgrazed.

it was sort of fun to sit back and watch but i confess we had a better time wandering the hotel and looking at the architecture and then we headed back to my 'hood for some food which was by far the best part of the night. [we even played online trivia while we waited for our food!]

i think we looked good though and we decided that getting all dolled up needed to happen more often, so i'm going to call the evening a success nonetheless.

the weekend proceeded to improve steadily from there though since othercat picked me up way too early on saturday morning and we headed into the wild blue yonder. we stopped for enormous coffees and then headed off.

we took the long way.

we ogled the view.

we saw a lot of cyclists.

we were late for a fantastic lunch... but not so late that we made lunch into a bad lunch. in fact lunch was organized such that our lateness was not important. one suspects that our hosts might have met me.

there was beer and good food and a walk on the back forty. in fact i suspect that i found new places to tread on ground that i've known for years and years. and then? there was MORE BEER!

and then? boo yeah homemade pizza in an actual wood burning pizza oven.

gastronomic heaven right there. you wouldn't believe some of the combinations either... they involved capers and peppers and shrooms or tuna and white sauce and onions or five different kinds of cheese or ham and shrooms and capers or hotdogs (!?!) and peppers and some stuff that was quite fantastic.

i ate like such a pig. i ate like such a pig that a two kilometre walk [and three beers] was required after dinner just to settle the food into the tummy a little... and then? boo yeah up we got to go out for brunch.

such a simple word for such a lovely experience. there were nine of us who don't see nearly enough of each other sitting around a table being happy and cheerful and eating freaking fantastic food. god the hash browns are the best for miles and miles and miles...

not to mention? you're eating in a QUONSET HUT!!

[it's so weird doing a this is what i did this weekend post... i NEVER do these]

anyway after i filled up on endless amounts of coffee (think never emptied mug because she refilled it so often for two and a half hours... [god it was great]) othercat and i hopped back in the convertible and headed out.

we hit my favourite place in the world and took yet another pic of me sitting on the same bridge (sorry don't have the pics yet) but i did steal this pic off his blog for y'all [well i will have stolen it if it ever loads]:

and then we went wandering off to find one of the last remaining cordoroy roads. also known as a macademized road. no, i don't know if i spelled it correctly. while there i snapped this:

please admire my shirt some more *grin*

and then we headed back to the big smoke cause othercat had to cable and i had to climb. and i learned two things at the climbing gym. one is that i am now a regular and as such many of the old regulars actually nod or smile or say hello to me first now. me likey.

funny thing? i was so blissed out i couldn't talk.

the second? that that 5.10b is NOT going down without a fight.

that's okay, i'll kick it's ass.

mg and i finished up the night with wings and hockey and were sad to see montreal fail to tie up their game. it was excellent hockey on their part though so you can't really judge them for it. it's easy to be pissed at a team when they suck but if they play their hearts out and lose by one? that's at least a worthy loss.

and then today i hang with hubris, tonight i teach and then i have a date [which is conflicting with a calgary game...] and tomorrow my week starts in earnest...

ahhh what a fantabulous weekend, hope y'all had good ones too.

[assuming i get them anytime soon i'll post some more pics of the weekend... we took piles]

nothing but good can ever come from "brunch".

I love your wolf-farmer analogy. Though I guess you can't blame those dressed-to-the-nines huntresses. All those calendar fireman are always such a mass of tanned, sinewy manliness. Mmmm.

I love brunch. Buttery breadstuffs, fruit and cocktails at the same meal? Brilliant. And brunch with long lost friends is even better.

Yay happy weekend and yay this is what I did this weekend post!

sorry that the ball wasn't, but the rest of the weekend sounded pretty fun.

and aren't quonset huts cool? They were one of the standard building designs here for a long time, thanks to the military.

and I LOVE that shirt!

kat: that is so true. that's like cosmically true in fact. i totally concur with you.

terry: dude i can't even tell you. i'm still having trouble talking.

oh man terry, that place is just a little piece of heaven in the world. when othercat gets the pics sorta tidied up i'll post a little tour series from the day.

jmai: i liked my analogy too, i was glad it popped into my head. i wasn't blaming any of the huntresses and trust me, some of the prey was indeed worthy (looking anyway)... and there's something about men who willingly risk their lives for others too right?

it's just the place was fished out. ... but it was fun to watch.

brunch is my favourite meal there is. serious. and yeah dude....even more brilliant is the super excellent brunch buffet...

i never do this kind of post and it was actually a little hard to write!

dzer: and it was!

i love quonset huts, they're actually a totally excellent and functional design with very little wasted space and easy expansion. what's not to like?

i love that shirt enough that i wore it again before i washed it! and i show it off to people and love watching their responses!

i'm so jealous, a FIREMAN'S ball!! We don't have them here...so expensive beer or not, i'd have a blst! Loving that t-shirt girly, how many people ask what a blog is??!!

Sounds like so much fun. I think you would make your own fun where ever you go, I love that about you. I love the pics too! The hole in the wall diners are the best, and I could honestly live in that 2nd photo...give me a luxury tent and I'm there.
Yup, you're adorable in the shirt!!

deb: you can be jealous if you want but i think we missed all the good bits. if there were any good bits. there was a decent crowd there but it was like someone forgot to spark the party. it was just kinda dead.

at least ten people per day or wearing the shirt ask me what it is. or for it's address.

kathi: dude it was a great weekend. and really considering the company it would have been difficult not to have a good time.

oh dude just wait til i post more pics from there, it really is a little piece of heaven. but that diner is sort of famous for several counties around :)

thanks! i love that shirt a lot *grin*

Wow what a fantabulous weekend! BONUS being that Edmonton squashed Detroit too... NICE!

I love that shirt, and I love seeing more of you on your blog. Seriously It so shows on your face how well things are going for you right now. It makes me happy to see Sassinak shiny happy.

Normally, balls that have a weird dress code and/or clothing optional mean all sorts of weird style addendums.. but oh what I wouldn't give to see you perdied up.

Blissed sounds nice... I like blissed :)

Dude...that's how I felt when I went canoeing...once I got the whole rowing thing down I was able to relax and enjoy the view and such.

I kinda am itching to do it again...but it might be too hot and burny to do it now. So I might have to wait. Damn Florida and all.

Sounds like a great time. :)

cas: you did? *excellent* :)

john: i always thought that fire fighters could party but everyone looked a bit lost and like they were wishing for fun that didn't exist.

that said? yer funny *g*

bubbles: yeah i'm really proud of edmonton... getting a bit worried of the boys from calgary though... they're not trying hard enough... well their goalie is but everyone else? if they let anaheim take them out the shame is twofold... not only did they get upset (they're the higher seed) but it was by a team called the MIGHTY DUCKS?!?!???

go calgary!

*clears throat*

i love that shirt like i can't even tell you... and that it was sent by someone who reads my blog? SO MUCH MORE AWESOME!

i'm quite happy, just a bit unexpectedly broke at the moment.

it actually meant clothing optional... as in jeans to gowns or anywhere in between. i sort of wish we'd gotten there earlier for just people watching but i couldn't pick an outfit. i wore jeans and a little v-neck velvety thingy...

blissed rocks dude

nat: *dances with nat*

yeah that's just how this part of the world makes me feel. it's so pretty and serene and bucolic and whatever other word for lovely and peaceful you can think of... it really takes you out of yourself.

do it do it! hrm hot and burny... i'm in capris and that's pushing it today...

was lovely, hope yours was too

CONVERSATION IS KEY, when everything else is gone you still gotta be able to talk to them. I am so excited for you! This makes me really happy Sass :) (Tall is good too)

5/03/2006 11:20:00 PM
Blogger sassinak said...

yeah conversation is really important. i don't know yet if we have that easy flow but i know that he's really easy to share space with...

hey now no getting excited or really happy or whatever... we're just in early dating and i try to never predict the future with this crap... since i'm always wrong anyway :)

(and yes, elle would approve)

5/04/2006 01:39:00 AM
Blogger HuneeB said...

I can be excited for you if I want, you can be the optomistic one and I will be the one who jumps up and down and gets all excited...look at it this way, you won't be let down cause you are the one who is being a realist and calm and I get to be the "other" and that way noone gets hurt...so he didn't come with a red flag? (Hope not) It's so nice being at ease with someone...and getting that comfortable feeling. Trust your first instinct cause contrary to popular belief that is mostly correct just most people ignore it. I will be quietly happy for you so my excitedness doesn't rub off...did you meet him climbing or okcupid...or somewhere else?

Am I prying? If I am feel free to yell a safe word and I will stop.. :)

5/04/2006 02:17:00 AM
Blogger sassinak said...

hunee: hee that's funny. i love getting excited for my friends so i totally get what you're saying. it's somehow more fun when it's not yourself.

i have discovered that i am significantly more cautious and slow to move than i once was... and even a little coldly analytical. it's very strange.

nope, no red flags that i've noticed... may be too nice for me though *grin*

i like my first instinct about him... it also felt cautious optimism :)

okcupid, i emailed him ... pry on babe... you seem to be the only one curious...

5/04/2006 01:02:00 PM
Blogger HuneeB said...

I am the same way with relationships in my own life and I always laugh that I am that way since I get so excited for friends, so I understand too. I guess it is a protective barrier so I am not always let down.

First instinct is good and there's the comfort and communication there but the niceness thing..hmmm well remember that you don't really see the true person for a while b/c of the personas we carry and exemplify, perhaps he has some of his own walls and niceness is one of them...but aren't we always complaining when we breakup with a dick that we just want a nice guy?? Yeah so just go with it, have fun and be yourself and I will continue to be pleasently surprised and happy for you (quietly in the corner of course) and you shall keep me updated??

Dufferin Grove park has TWO wood burning ovens and in the summer time they fire them up Wednesday afternoons (and I THINK Thursday evenings? something like that...)for public use.

Furthermore, for $10 and an afternoon of your time (for a basic class), you too can have a key to the oven and use it when you like (they do ask that if you fire it up, you let others use it too. It stays hot a LONG time).

It's awesomely fun to get out there and make pizza or homemade bread or something in them. And DEEEELICIOUS

hunee: yeah i think that's pretty natural, especially after you've had some hellaciously painful breakups and the like.. you get super cautious. too cautious i think maybe.

but yeah i totally get it cause i do it.

i know about the whole true person thing, it's why i date slowly and don't sleep with people fast. like to stay unclouded by sex for a little while.

i shall of course keep you updated and that is exactly what i am doing. going with it, having fun and trying to be myself. that last one is hard since she's changed a lot in the last fewyears and i'm sort of getting to know her myself... it's interesting to see what dating sass will be like.

md: dude :)

that's fucking cool. where is that near?

also with the wood where do you get wood and stuff? is there a fee or a little store with wood nearby?

dad's oven takes a while to heat up, how long does this one take ish?

damm dude that's awesome. that's awesome.
