oh canada!

damm you guys i was just sharing my porch with a frog. and it was really cute and did some hopping and some hanging out and stuff too.

okay it's my parents porch but whatever. i just sat there and played sudoku and stared at the stars and didn't really do anything. my brain it went a rambling and it didn't accomplish anything. i gotta say, it was all good.

there was rain falling and nature noises and peace and goodwill to all men. i'm going back out shortly.

i've had the nicest day today which is seriously appropriate since it's Canada Day and all. please note that i used capital letters, that's how much respect for today i have. so i done did her well.

i woke up at my sister's apartment this morning to the sounds of coffee and happiness. i saw that my companion for the drive up and guest room sharer was up and gone already and i could see that the sun was up. this boded well.

so i checked the time and it was nearly eleven and well i wanted to hang out with my friends so up i got and out i went to a delicious omelette and a lovely cappuccino and then a scenic drive to the farm.

you know, the farm, also known as heaven on earth.

there i had pizza leftovers with my parents. please grok the homemade pizza from the wood fired pizza oven nature of said leftovers. and while you're at it note that one had capers and roasted peppers and crab and another had quattro formaggi and another was tuna and some kind of white cheese and some bechamelish sauce and caramelized onions and the last one had pepperoni and cheese and uh... onions?

and then dad and i sat around for an hour to digest before heading out to the bush whereupon we displayed a herculean ability to work together and cut up four deadfall trees with a chainsaw (he chainsawed and i did all the moving logs around and stuff... well not all.. whatever, it was together) and get eaten alive by mosquitos all in an hour.

that was the easy part. then we went and got the tractor and came back with it and the truck and drove the tractor around the back twenty five and piled it with this wood we'd cut and then took the wood back to the truck. i'm going into this much detail for the city folk among us.

the thing is that the wood goes in the front end loader/scoop/bucket/whatever it's called and there's still the digger attachment and it's bracing arms at the back so this thing is long. longer than my truck was and it was huge.

and there's my dad driving around on the tractor and i'm like yanking saplings out of the way and stuff. and literally five minutes before we were done? this little rain starts.

so we get in our vehicles and pull out and the rain hits and my dad is racing home at like mach six on the tractor and i'm driving the truck lackadaisically [i couldn't believe i spelled it right, so i checked, and i did] down the road and he comes roaring into the driveway and flies into the barn and he looked so happy all wet and grinning!

then we sat around while mom made dinner which makes me feel a little bad but i was tired yo and had a lovely dinner with beer and wine and conversation and then we all hung out and read the paper (well dad did the sudoku puzzle that i couldn't finish) and then i sat outside for like an hour.

ahhh it was blissful.

Canada Day is officially over but the weekend goes on and i am going outside to finish the new sudoku puzzle that i'm working on before i crash. it's so peaceful out there and since i learned not to scratch the mosquito bites they bother me much less.

night kids, happy Canada Day!

Official Lyrics of O Canada!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada!

O Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!

Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!

Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

yes, Canada Day on the farm.

yesterday i brushed my favourite donkey, then spent 3 hours cleaning out the barn. just as i was out mellowing with my sweetie donkey, all the other donkeys decided, en masse, to gallop from the field into my nice clean barn. it was a 'wtf??' moment. so i went and chopped up a bucket of carrots, walked through the barn for maximum aroma enticement, and ran like hell in a big circle around the field leaving a trail of carrot pieces behind me. all the donkeys came racing out of the barn to pick up carrots like little kids on an easter egg hunt.

then i went swimming in the pond to wash the grunge off. coooool with two big goldfish.

bought strawberries on the way home.

an excellent Canada Day, imho. :)
just the way it should be. we should all be able to do whatever it is that gives us joy on this day. (and everyday, of course)

I caught a fish or two for you yesterday eh.

LOL one of the girls had lived in Canada for a few years so she taught us how to sing O'Canada while we were on the water....

Not that I didn't have it memorized from watching this years hockey tourn.

Then we stood and faced the north and sent happy american-like thoughts to you wonderful canadians.

Today we plan on driving up the the border to kiss a mounty. err, mountie? Either way just thinking of mount and kissing makes me horny.

So Im off to get dressed and go north for kisses!!! Maybe Ill get lucky and run into you...

sounds like a glorious day.

and i'm with everyone else -- your national anthem is soooo much better than the star-spangled banner.

the marseillaise is my other fave.

that's funny because I read the title of this post and thought "I wonder what the rest of the song goes like" because in all my life I've only ever heard anyone go "O Canada!" and then move on. So thanks for the lyrics!!

Glad you had such a fun day. I'm all bitten up too, and I can't help scratching! Cause they always get my feet which is soooooo annoying!

Canada? I have heard of it, but don't know anyone that has actually been there. Much like the Yeti, or the Loch Ness Monster I believe that Canada is just an urban legend. Honestly, who would have that much space and so few residents? Where are all the strip malls, and pollution? No way that place exists. I will never believe it.

jmai: i posted them on a whim because i didn't have quite enough to say. who knew y'all would love them :)

it is pretty isn't it?

i'm all bitten up again in fact and i'm not sure what from...

cas: it's funny you should say that since i've actually *seen* a yeti and have several friends that have gone swimming with loch ness.

i'm surprised you haven't seen one yourself. i've heard you americans never open your eyes. :)

[tragically we have both strip malls AND pollution here :(]

What? You all are dissing on the Star Spangled Banner? How can you not like an anthem that has notes very few can hit, lyrics no one can remember, and a tune based off of an old English drinking song?

The rest of you commenters from the US should be ashamed! I, for one, am PROUD to stand up, and patriotically mumble through our national anthem until they get to the "bombs bursting in air" part. If you don't do the same, well, I guess you just don't like America too much, do ya?

oh man dude your sense of humour kills me. i can actually picture y'all doing that!

The is one really ironic thing about our national anthem. Calixa Lavallee, wrote Oh Canada, and promptly moved to the USA afterwards. Like every succesful Canadian Musician, he couldn't resist the pull of a larger market for his compositional skills.

...and you thought it was only Joni Mitchell and Neil Young who did that!
