ready maid rescue
.
okay first of all i need some kind of personal shield around sunrise records. they keep putting more cds in the list that's on sale and i keep getting sucked in and buying two or three little cds. i mean they're ONLY 9.99 after all. this is killing me, seriously i've spent like two hundred bucks in that store in a WEEK!
but oh such lovely music!
so many things i've wanted forever and so many others that i've sort of considered getting but haven't.
god i shouldn't be allowed to have money in my wallet... all i want to do is spend it. something has to happen or i'll just stay this broke.
i did "blow" fifty bucks and some chinese takeout on a maid yesterday to clean my apartment and it looks AWESOME!!! [yes maid i'm talking to you! feel free to out yourself... not sure if you're private about such things in the blogverse or not] i walked into my apartment today and it was so nice. i didn't have to feel oppressed by my own mess... and i didn't feel guilty about what a pig i am.
the fact remains that i do not have the energy to clean my own house when i get home from work and my place was basically falling into greater and greater disrepair.
interestingly since then i've organized my entire cd collection (yes even the burned ones) and started throwing shit out. guess i just needed someone to start the process for me. my place had turned into some kind or metaphor for depression actually.
one of the signs of depression is an inability to get anything done. you think of doing this one thing and that leads to this other thing and this other thing and suddenly you have this huge list of stuff to deal with and you don't know where to start and then you don't do *anything*. so they tell you to imagine a giant dresser and each drawer is one task and that you're just opening one drawer at a time.
that's actually some hella useful advice by the way.
anyway my apartment had gotten like that. i wanted to clean my living room but i had to find a place to put all sorts of shit away and then i started thinking i should get the bedroom done first and work out from there and i basically started spinning in circles and not starting anything.
then i added guilt to the mix and thus got nothing done for another month.
finally i caved and offered my friend fifty bucks and dudes. SO WORTH IT!
i am here to tell you that it's worth giving up a dinner out or whatever if in exchange you get a maid visit. so much better than half a pair of shoes or a month of cable or anything. if you find yourself perpetually behind the eight ball when it comes to cleaning your place?
GET.A.MAID!!!!
so nice.
so today, instead of looking around my apartment, feeling guilty, getting depressed and still not accomplishing shit?
yeah i made a mixed tape and organized my burned cds.
so good!
hubris will be so proud of me when he sees the CD i got today...
.
i've noticed some oddness happening around my comments section... people show up when a post has been up for a little while and start saying stuff like:
'i know i'm late to the party but...'
'this is totally off topic but...'
'everyone already said what i'm thinking so i'll just say hi'
'i'm sure what i just said was stupid'
'i hope you don't mind if i comment...'
'i don't think that made any sense...'
and i would like to address a little of this.
first of all? if a post is up? you're not late to the party at all, it's there to be commented on. even if it's the tenth post down my list it's still there to be commented on, if you have something to say, no matter how long ago the post went up *i* still want to hear it. regardless, just comment okay?
there is no such thing as off topic, if you have something to say? say it... i don't care what it's about, i'm here for the conversation.
say what you're thinking anyway, your words are different than theirs.
IT'S NEVER STUPID!
i welcome every single, solitary comment i get. i just delete the spam. if you're not linking to massage schools i'm probably happy to hear whatever you have to say... even if it isn't positive.
it always makes sense. every single time someone has said 'that probably didn't make any sense' it ALWAYS has. just so you know.
.
i used to clean houses for money. some of you may not know that. and the thing i noticed universally was that almost everyone was somehow embarassed to have called a housekeeper in. and i totally didn't get it.
these people make a hundred or fifty or thirty or whatever bucks an hour. they work their forty hour weeks that turn into sixty with commuting and lunch. they go out with their friends and you know? they're freaking tired at the end of the day.
i'm freaking tired at the end of the day.
and still they call you up and you show up and you cheerfully clean their house. which they've often cleaned already because they're so embarassed to have called you.
and then they see it. the house is clean and they didn't do SHIT.
and that's it, they're over it... suddenly you're the hero of their lives.
i'm like that myself, and i can't really afford to get someone to clean my house... and yet?
SO WORTH IT!
hire a housekeeper. give someone fifty bucks to clean for three hours. watch your taps sparkle.
have a mimosa and thank me in the morning *grin*
see ya! have a good night!

I'm so glad I stopped back by tonight. This post is so me. I get frustrated over cleaning too, though I didn't know it was part of my depression, I thought maybe it was a.d.d. or something because I'd start on one room and then walking through another room I'd see something in that room and so it goes... I really have to concentrate on ONE room at a time, then move to the next. And, if I don't clean to music, forget about it...I can't clean to the tv on. But, I agree that the best way to clean is to let someone else do it! Kinda like the way I cook, lol. :)
kathi: i responded to your last comment on fog also...
i'm glad you stopped in too actually. it's nice to get a comment before bed. for sure it's part of your depression... or you have add.
but if you don't get accused of having add by random people you hardly know then you probably don't have it. *grin*
anyway as for depression, one of the hallmarks is drowning in your to-do list. another one is inability to get out of bed, general listlessness, inexplicable temper flareups, too much or too little appetite and/or sleep, general irritability... you know...
lying in bed and not leaving the house for a month (which i've done)
but just because you're depressed doesn't mean you don't have add or some sort of statement that makes sense like that.
anyway yeah i have to sort of force myself to limit my task list or i get nothing done. i'm also demanding either music or company to clean... the company one is hard to accomplish.
tv is for watching... can't clean then :)
i can cook but i like it best if others do it :)
okay so sorry I am just commenting now, I know I am a little late...
He-he just kidding :)
Sass I agree with the cleaning I am an organizing freak except when it comes to my desk junk mail piles and piles and it is awful then it overflows onto the coffee table...it drives me nuts and if my to do list gets too long I get overwhelmed and say I'll do it tomorrow, and well we all know what tomorrow means...
Music is an sbsolute must while cleaning otherwise I get bored and irritated within the first 30 minutes and I stop but if music is on I shake my little happy booty to the beat and get my clean on.
:)
i'm a neat freak. i seriously get pissy when i walk into my apartment and something is out of place, or there's clutter anywhere outside of my desk. psychotic? fuck yea. but i love walking into my place, looking around, taking a deep breath..and knowing it's clean, taken care of, and i don't have to worry about it.
my mother has a maid. my mom cleans after the maid leaves. why? my mom makes me look like an absolute slob. figures.
oh! and i clean to jazz music :) and, i shake my booty while i vacuum...fuck..if i just got a new pair of shoes..i put them on and shake my booty and clean.
wow, i'm a dork :)
Dude...I grew up with a live-in maid. It was very common in Argentina. I never thought anything of it. Then I moved to the US and people were always surprised when I said that. Some actually gave me dirty looks like paying someone to clean your house was somehow making them your slave or something.
The thing is...if you are so busy that you hardly have time to do anything, and you make enough money...then a maid makes sense. Your house is clean and you have the extra time and energy to do stuff you want to do...and these are people offering their service... and you are paying them... a job is a job...working is decent. I don't get what the bog deal is with having someone clean you place. I know right now I don't need it...I am managing fine. But I don't ever discount the possibility of having someone clean once a week.
OK...on to other things...I need a shield against iTunes...cause I go in there and all I have to do is click to buy and...voila...there it is, ready to be played and burned and loaded onto my iPod. Ahhhh I can spend hundreds there. But music is soothing to the soul...and I dig that.
I am in a giddy mood... :)

huneeeee: rofl!
you know what i mean i take it :)
oh man my desk, it's at least got logical piles on it, trying to sort the shelving near my desk is a freaking nightmare. also my apartment is tiny.
tomorrow means never in your world too huh?
i not that all of us need tunes to clean to. personally i like heavy rock and roll/alternative or what i call heavy metal classical...
you get that i'm imagining a happy shaking little booty hanging out there in space right?
elle: i'm not ... i was the anti neat freak for a really long time and then i got tidy and stayed that way until i got in a car accident... then i was getting my tidy back but i became a superintendent and that sort of ate my cleaning energy and now the habit seems a bit broken, so i need to get it back.
but yeah, knowing my place is clean is such a relief, i had no idea how it was weighing on me until it wasn't.
as long as she doesn't do all the stuff the maid already did. i mean i could always tweak and polish a bit after the maid is done but i'm not recleaning the toilet...
i love wearing new shoes around the house!
dork on!
nat: nice!
i think in a lot of less puritannical cultures the act of having a maid is just seen as a logical outreach AND the profession of maid is significantly more respected... least i think so, am i wrong?
i've seen that look on people and i don't get it. if you PAY someone you aren't exploiting them. they're there of their own free will. that said, the commercial maid services in this country do really exploit their workers...
oh man itunes will KILL me... it's pretty much why i haven't gotten an ipod as of yet... that and i don't have a mac or a windows computer...
giddy is GOOD! giddy on!
In response to Nat I think that most people here feel guilty for having a maid sort of like you are too lazy to do it ourselves I mean even the few times I hired a maid I was cleaning with them, it just felt weird to sit and watch. In reality we just work really hard and sometimes (or regularly) it feels good to let someone else do it and like you said free up the little spare time to enjoy life :) I think I would have a regular maid if I could afford it...
mostly to clean the shower, I do it regularly but I hate it everytime!
huneeb-
Yeah, I totally get that they have guilt issues with it. I don't see why. Most American people have no problem with big corporation exploiting their workers for a minimum wage that is hardly above the poverty line (a line which is a bloody joke to begin with) and giving them no or very little in the shape of health benefits, etc. So I have issues with that guilt...it's very misplaced. But I get what you mean. And, darling, if you are paying someone to do something, let them...or are you gonna get up and get your own food next time you go to a restaurant? :)
-N
I totally agree about the big corp. I worked for one once and absolutly hated it! IT sickens me to see how low they go esp when the CEO's are making mils+
and yeah know one time at a really bad service restaurant I got up and filled my own coffee in front of the manager, went back to the table got my friends cup and filled hers, needless to say her tip was meager, service was really bad!
Hun-
ROTFL!!! That's taking the bull by the horns!
-N
oh no my dear, my mom re-cleans everything. it's hilarious. nothing is up to her cleanly par.
go figure my brother and i are OCD about cleanliness.
hunee i think that's it exactly. i know i feel guilty about it a little myself and yet i can't think why. i needed it done and my maid friend needed the money ... what's wrong with that?
i cleaned with the maid also but it was more i tidied in front and the cleaning followed...
heh tilex fresh shower!
nat: don't you just love irony? we can't accept needing help with our homes but we don't mind being exploited... so weird...
hunee: i hate corporate work. ceos get bonuses for firing people and the company rots from within while posting record profits...
i've done that at restaurants too and had the server look at me all weird. what dude when i said more coffee did you think i meant next week?
elle: damm dude. why does she bother having a maid then?
heh, i'm not ocd about it but i can understand the temptation... fortunately i'm too lazy.
Elle-
My mum is the same way. When she was in my condo alone the other day, waiting for my dishwasher to be delivered, she recleaned the place even though I had cleaned it the day before. UGH!!!
-N
When a certain friend of mine during college started a small business cleaning houses, it was a the most wonderful thing that had happened to my apartment in over 3 years.
After the mass migration of bewildered fruit flies left my home, I never thought twice about paying someone to come over once a week and maintain it. Right now I don't have a house keeper due to all the corpses and sadistic porn, but as soon as I find a decent way to display all of my um...trophies, I'm sure that I'll have a house keeper once again. Now if I could only figure out where to hang hang this darn def lepard poster.
Is it strange that I am more weirded out by the poster than by the sadistic porn?
Hmmmmm....
-N
nat: i don't know... but me too
:)
[also your mom is nuts and so is elle's mom]
I soooooooooo need a housekeeper! You're making me feel a little less embarrassed about it (and YES I would totally clean up, at least a little, before allowing a housekeeper in!).
I need help. Or we all do.
I will hire a maid, can I get one with a happy ending? I say that about all service related industries, my pastor was really pissed the other day. Cleaniness is next to godliness, and I am far away from a God, although I once was called Jesus...but I had to pay her an extra 50 bucks. Love your blog...sounds like all is well in your world...as it should be.
Poooooor soooommmee suggggaar onnn meee.
muahahahahahahaha.
I think some people may have awkwardly shameful feelings about someone coming in and cleaning up after them, especially in personal areas like bathrooms and toilets (I mean having someone clean up your crap is one thing, but to have them literally clean up your crap is quite another...). Plus, situations like these are reminicent of class divisions of old. A person may not personally feel that they are better than anyone else, yet they fear that to be served on may give the impression that they DO think they are better than those in the "working class" that they have hired to serve them.
I would consider a maid service, but I would probably clean first before they came just because I'm weird like that.
I would choose living with corpses over Def Leopard music any day.
Hey - I was just surfing by and everyone has already commented on what I'd say so I thought I'd just say hi.
Hi. :)
jmai: dude what's to be embarassed about? my house is clean, my friend made fifty bucks and i'm not feeling shitty about my shitty house. it's a great deal all around.
look you have to tidy or they can't find the stuff that they're cleaning... but you don't CLEAN first.
we all need help, we all work too much...
cas: i think the happy ending is up to the maid isn't it? that said perhaps if you interviewed them first?
i'm nowhere near god but i'm very spiritual, what does your pastor think about that?
glad you love my blog, i miss yours... but yeah, life doesn't suck.
lsd: i'm going to kick your ass. want to come to a pilates class so i can do it right?
john: i think you've nailed it actually. i just don't see why getting your house cleaned is any different from ordering a drink. and yet i'm embarassed about it myself. it's not like i don't sympathise.
let me rephrase, i'm embarassed in advance and fucking delighted after...
dude tidy first, THEN the maid can really clean.
hmmm can i pick none of the above?
matt: *snicker*
hi
dude i live in a small one bedroom...

Nat: thank god my mom lives a good 8 hours away from me, but when they do in fact visit they won't stay with me for the sheer and simple fact that i have two pets, and in their view, i don't clean up after them enough. keep in mind i vacuum 4-5 times a week, and have sheets on all the furniture so their fur doesn't stick. yay parents!
Sass: it's funny. she wasn't a total nutcase about cleaning until my brother was born, and then, so says my dad, she want fuckin nuts. it's not that she likes cleaning..but she likes to have a clean home...and, well, she's an idelchik..we like things done our way =P
LSD: i hope you know, that you got that bastard song in my head, and now i'm going to go to sleep humming "pour some sugar on me" until i pass out. DAMN YOU!!
Sass: i deleted the above comment....BUT! i did so because i made too many spelling errors because i'm on the phone haha
Don't diss Def Leppard or I'll cut you.
'Cuz I'm hot, sticky sweet, from my head to my feet yeah.
bubbles: took them out of 60 jewel cases and three little ten pack books and put em all in NO PARTICULAR ORDER in a 96 book.
man it's so much better now. :)
thanks dude, be proud if i alphabetize them.. god i'm so anal i probably will.
lol
mmmmmmmmm she said boobie nuzzles *tingle*
you are not late for anything love you are here right now. yay for commenting on all my posts!
also hooray for being an ass! :)
elle: elle can't spell nya nya *points and giggles*
okay done now. :)
dude word on the eight hours. and parents rock but are also the worst.
i wonder why your mom went nuts after she had a kid, it seems sorta weird, like i suspect most people get more tolerant of dirt cause of how kids are... was he sickly or anything?
i like things done my way too... i so sympathise.
oh dude, so much sympathy on the def leppard in your head... i don't even have words. it's okay if you like them but otherwise? it's probably like 'it's a small world after all' or something.
pv: i can SO HEAR YOU saying that. in your little threatening tone where you actually mean it even though you're pretending you're being funny *lol*
hey that was nice yesterday er sunday btw.
okay NOW i have the song in my head :)
